‘A lesson from a legend’: Lucas Radebe shares advice with Relebohile Mofokeng

Lucas Radebe is making headlines after his viral video with Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng at the GQ Awards surfaced online.

Bafana Bafana and Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe is trending after his video offering Orlando Pirates wonderkid Relebohile Mofokeng advice at the annual GQ Awards.

No doubt it’s that time of the year when GQ South Africa honours people who shape our world at the annual GQ Men of the Year Awards.

LUCAS RADEBE SHARES ADVICE WITH RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG

Orlando Pirates wonderkid Relebohile Mofokeng was one of the winners at the awards ceremony. He walked away with the Sportsperson of the Year award at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.

His big wins with the Orlando Pirates have seen him winning big. The award comes barely a week after he won big at the 2024 Gauteng Sports Awards.

At the awards, he was named the Sports Personality of the Year, beating a host of athletes, including Olympic champion Tatjana Smith.

Other notable athletes who missed the award include UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis and Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams.

He has won several accolades since being thrust into the limelight, including PSL Young Player of the Season and the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

Relebohile Mofokeng continues to excel, as he has already won the MTN8 title with Pirates this season.

Thanks to his flair and command of the game, he has been dubbed South Africa’s next big star.

On the sidelines of the awards, Lucas Radebe chatted with Relebohile Mofokeng. He emphasised the importance of planning for life after football.

He advised Mofokeng to use his current success as a platform to secure his future beyond his playing career.

“You know, a time like this when you are on the high, it is very important because there is life after football, and that comes quick with a lot of responsibilities, so you have a chance,” said Lucas Radebe.

CAREER
The 20-year-old star started his youth career with Transnet School of Excellence. A few months ago, he topped trends after his photos of him wearing a Mamelodi Sundowns jersey went viral.

However, The South African established that Relebohile Mofokeng played for a team that wore a Mamelodi Sundowns jersey.

He once played for Amandl/Vaal Juventus FC—before joining Orlando Pirates. In 2022, he joined Orlando Pirates Youth Academy, and a year later, he was promoted to the senior team.

Since then, he has won big and become the club’s poster boy. In 2023, he hogged headlines after having trials with English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves).

Several European clubs are closely monitoring him including Spanish giants Barcelona FC.
