Imbewu: The Seed congratulates legendary TV actress Thembi Mtshali-Jones, who has achieved a huge milestone in the arts, by being awarded an honorary doctorate from the Durban University of Technology.

Mtshali has been in the industry for more than five decades now, and she is not quitting anytime soon. The actress has starred in several shows, but her most iconic role was that of Thoko on SABC’s popular sitcom, Sgudi Snaysi in the 1990s.

The much-loved Imbewu matriarch received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Visual and Performing Arts on Monday during a virtual graduation ceremony. “Receiving this honor has been one of the greatest accomplishments in my career. My long journey in this industry has not always been smooth and I regard it as a privilege to continue doing what I’m passionate about. I hope this brings inspiration to the youth of this country and teaches them that there is no timeframe for any accomplishment. ” said Thembi Mtshali-Jones.

Congratulating her, eTV says “This is not just a milestone for her but one for the industry as a whole. Shine Dr. Thembi Mtshali– Jones. Shine!.”

Celebrating this monumental success on Instagram, the actress expressed her gratitude to the Durban University of Technology for the honor. “Thank you @dutartsanddesign and @dut_official1 for this amazing honor. I see that the cat has been let out of the bag. I am so humbled by all of the people who have been posting this milestone of mine and congratulating me.

My journey has been a long one, one that has been filled with many challenges and achievements. This one is even sweeter because I have received it from my home town. I accept this not only on my behalf but also on behalf of many of my peers who have passed on before having the opportunity to be celebrated. ”

The veteran actress said she did not know she would still be acting in the early 70’s when she launched her career. “I started my career in the early 70’s and I had no idea that even after 5 decades I would still be standing strong and still doing what I love. Again, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has been and still are a part of my journey,” she wrote.
