Everyone who knows Dr Tumi will tell that he’s keen on his dad. He always speaks about how well and Godly he raised them and the way he loved them. In an interview with Anele on Real Talk, Dr Tumi said his dad bought him his first keyboard when he was 9. He wont to play the church keyboard that was kept reception but his hero dad then decided to shop for him one because he could see that there’s something musical in him. His dad always wanted him to be a tutorial but he also knew that he was getting to be a musician. His late father was a pastor at Assemblies of God, a church-based in Seshego, Limpopo.

Pastor MD Makweya was supportive of Dr Tumi’s music calling and him and elders of the church always invited Dr Tumi to minister to them. “I was invited by the elders at Assemblies of God to perform within the church’s National Youth Convention in Thaba-Nchu, Free State,” he says. “Ministering within the church I grew up in was humbling. It brought all the gorgeous childhood memories.” said Dr Tumi.
