Former The Queen’s actor Sello Motloung joins New Show

THE ACTOR WENT TO THE STREETS AND BEGGED FOR A JOB IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS AS HE WAS REALLY STRUGGLING, HAVING NO JOB AT ALL. THE ACTING INDUSTRY IS VERY DIFFICULT, YOU ONLY PRAY THAT YOU GET A CAST SO THAT YOU CAN BE EMPLOYED. OTHER THAN THAT YOU WILL SUFFER AS IT HAPPENED TO MANY ACTORS WHO HAVE BEEN OUT OF JOBS.

Congratulations are in order for former The Queen’s actor, Sello Motloung who has landed a role in the SABC soap after he was out of jobs for quite too long. It will be recalled that he took to social media and begged for a job. This legendary actor was so desperate for an acting gig after being unemployed due to the pandemic Covid-19 which cost many people their jobs.

The entertainment or media industry has been one of those industries that have been affected a lot because of this pandemic. Many productions stopped filming while others retrenched their cast members and crew.

With so many restrictions, they were not able to carry on with the productions, and sadly the actors suffered. They lost their jobs and became unemployed and got very devastated. Many actors even wrote to Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa to give them the relief fund and open up the industry as they were suffering.

Sello Motloung has been one of those actors who got affected and lost jobs. This seasoned actor has played in many productions including Backstage, Rhythm City, Rockville, Isidingo, After 9, Madam and Eve, Soul City, Chikin Biznis, The Long Run, Ollie, Zulu Love Letter, Skilpoppe, Man to Man, Faith’s Corner, Jerusalema, Invictus, Chanda’s Secrets, Tirza and How to Steal 2 Million and The Queen.

He also acted in many films including, Act of defiance and Gangster’s Paradise, just to mention a few.

After a long drought of unemployment, the actor has finally landed a role on SABC 3’s new soap, The Estate.

It will be remembered that in May this year, the actor got candid in a Facebook post, speaking about the last time he got a job was in 2020 with SABC 2’s Lithapo. He said he has no regrets for doing that as he had witnessed many people in this industry losing their possessions because the production companies were not casting them.

“It was a very honest post. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t help [putting up the Facebook post]. Getting this role, I don’t think it was because of that. We are at a phase where a lot of actors and crew behind the scenes have lost their homes and possessions because jobs are scarce, and authorities don’t consider artists. That post was from my heart. I didn’t lose anything physically but in terms of my lifestyle, it changed.” he said.

Motloung will be playing the role of Elias Nkosi, a father in his 50s, who is a serious businessman. Before he got cast, Motloung said that he was doing auditions and advertisements.

As an actor, you have to always be finding a job whether on television, film, or stage. With the pandemic, it’s such a tricky challenge, and finding a good role within a good production is almost unheard of. I consider myself very fortunate to finally find this role for which I auditioned.”
