AMANDA MANKU ON HER FATHER ‘KILLING’ HER MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER

During a recent question-and-answer session on her Instagram account, a follower asked Amanda about her emotional well-being since her father’s arrest.

“This question, I think it requires one to kind of dig deep in. I am okay. I think there is a lot going on in my personal life right now that if I was not strong, it could get me down, but I don’t have that option. Unfortunately, I don’t have the option to be weak. I don’t have the privilege of being weak. I have to be strong.

“There are some hectic things that I think a lot of people know about that have been in the limelight. Particularly is losing my parents and the aftermath of that but other than that we move,” Amanda said.

THE ARRESTS

Manku (53), his girlfriend Nonhlanhla Ngubo (42) and David Khoza (40) were arrested in January this year.

Ngubo was later released, while Manku was denied bail and Khoza abandoned his.

The pair have been in custody since their arrest and have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, two counts of murder and defeating the ends of justice, and robbery with aggravated circumstances.

On Monday, 24 June, Manku and Khoza made another court appearance at the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court for another bail application on new facts. However, the matter was postponed to Tuesday, 25 June.

WILLIAM MANKU CONFESSED TO THE MURDERS

In an affidavit, during his bail application, Manku said he wanted to be released on bail to tender his resignation as a police officer at Magatle Police Station.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi at the time, 70-year-old Maphuthuma and her 45-year-old daughter were shot dead by unknown suspects while fetching water at a local tap.

“At the time, Amanda’s grandmother was also in company of her son who was injured during the shooting and survived. After the murders, the police started with the investigations that identified the suspects and subsequent arrests were affected,” Malabi-Dzhangi said.

According to the investigation officer in the case, Manku confessed that he found people to kill Maphuthuma and drove with them to show them where she lived.

“He then pointed to his mother-in-law’s house, and they returned to Gauteng. The hitmen came back on their own as he had given them instructions to kill his mother-in-law,” the investigator said.

When “the job was done”, the hitmen called Manku to let him know that they had killed two people instead of one.

“He told them that one of the women was his wife. They said she ran away from the place, and they thought she might tell the community and they would be caught,” she continued.
