King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has reportedly gone to the ground amid concerns.
Insiders close to the king told the media he had moved from the Phongolo Palace because of fears for his safety and a falling out with some members of his inner circle.
King Misuzulu has not been seen in public for two weeks and is said to have rescheduled engagements related to his official duties.
He recently did not attend an event organized by the department of arts and culture in Gauteng. It was instead attended on his behalf by other members of royalty.
According to the department, the event was meant to look at ways to help migrants from KwaZulu-Natal who live in and around hostels in Gauteng.
The media can reveal that King Misuzulu’s praise singer, Inyosi Goqozile Masango, was apparently summoned this week to appear before the Osuthu royal court for allegedly leaking details of a scandal in a voice recording.
In a voice note shared on social media, Masango refers to a falling out between the king and his closest aide, Mthokozisi Ntombela. It is understood King Misuzulu has since banished Ntombela.
Masango told the media that he too feared for his life.
He said the summons came in the form of a letter sent via a messaging app and a phone call from someone who identified themself as “Nxumalo”.
The letter says: “The Osuthu royal court asks that you arrive at the royal court with your family on Friday [February] 17, the matter is urgent.” The praise singer did not go.
“There is a signature at the bottom but there is no name, I don’t know who this Nxumalo is,” Masango said.
Royal family members closest to the king have attributed his withdrawal from public engagements to turmoil in his personal life that has spilt over to his work.
