KZN awards remove late Mpho Sebeng.

The posthumous nomination of the late Soweto-born actor Mpho Sebeng at the 11th Annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards has caused significant confusion. Dedicated to honoring KZN talents, the awards unexpectedly recognized Sebeng, who tragically passed away in a car accident.

Ayanda Mthiyane, who works as a PR and event specialist at KZN Tourism and Film, brought attention to the mistake when speaking with Daily Sun.

“It has been brought to our attention that Mpho Sebeng, may his soul rest in peace, was not a resident of KZN. Consequently, his name has been withdrawn from the top four nominees. While this oversight is regrettable, the list of nominees for this category remains robust with three actors,” she explained.

Mthiyane emphasized that the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and TV Awards aim to celebrate and acknowledge the exceptional accomplishments of filmmakers and television professionals in KZN.

“These awards provide a platform to showcase the local film and television industry’s diverse talent, creativity, and innovation,” she said.

The nominees embody the varied and vibrant talent pool in KZN. Mpho’s sister, Lebogang Sebeng, stated that the family prefers not to comment on the issue.
