Leon Schuster Faces Health Struggles After Second Surgery
Veteran South African comedian Leon Schuster, known for his comedic pranks and beloved roles in films like *Mr. Bones*, recently opened up about his ongoing health challenges. Schuster, now 72 years old, underwent a second surgery after suffering a fall at his home while still recovering from a previous operation. The entertainer expressed his frustration, admitting that he is “not in a good place” following the recent setback.
The ordeal began in August 2023 when Schuster fell from a van during the filming of *Mr. Bones 3*, sustaining significant injuries. The fall required an initial back surgery, after which Schuster endured months of intense physiotherapy to regain his ability to walk. His recovery seemed to be progressing until a second unfortunate incident occurred. In a candid interview with *YOU* magazine, Schuster revealed that he suffered a second fall while still recuperating, which drastically delayed his recovery.
Reflecting on the experience, Schuster described the emotional and physical toll the second accident had on him. “I’ve been through a rough patch, man, through absolute hell. I’m a bit depressed. This thing has been going on too long – it’s almost 10 months since my first back surgery,” he shared. The veteran comedian explained that the second fall happened when he woke up in a state of confusion and disorientation, unsure of his surroundings.
Schuster recounted the painful moment of his fall, saying, “I got up, wet my pants, stepped in the urine and fell on my back. Then I felt tremendous pain. I felt as if they could cut off my back and give the bones to the dogs. I just lay there and screamed.” Despite the immense pain and emotional toll, Schuster expressed gratitude for his situation, saying, “I’m not in a good place, but I’m in a grateful place. And that’s why I try to lie here in a straight position and keep my spirits up with a bit of light-heartedness.”
The comedian now relies on a walking stick to get around and has been advised by his doctors to exercise extreme caution. He was warned that another fall could lead to irreversible damage. Schuster is expected to undergo yet another surgery, but before this can happen, he must first lose 15 kilograms to reduce the risk of complications. The entertainer remains anxious about the upcoming procedure, acknowledging the delicate nature of the surgery and the potential risks involved. “The doctor told me he can only take away 50% of my pain. It’s a very delicate operation, and if any mistake is made, it can have severe consequences,” Schuster said.
As he prepares for the next phase of his recovery, Schuster admitted to sleepless nights filled with worry about his future. “Now I lie awake worrying whether I’ll survive, whether I’ll make it,” he told *YOU*. Despite the challenges, Schuster remains determined to push through his health struggles, while his fans continue to offer their support during this difficult time.
Leon Schuster’s journey to recovery has been filled with ups and downs, but his resilience and enduring sense of humor have carried him through. His fans eagerly await his full recovery, hoping that he will soon return to the entertainment world that he has made laugh for decades.
