The COVID-19 relief fund for entertainers was set to ensure their needs get well taken care of, however, not everyone is qualified to get a piece of the pie.

Whilst various ZAlebs have boasted about receiving the funds, some like veteran actress Linda Sebezo are finding it difficult to make ends meet.

She applied for the Business and Arts South Africa (Basa) relief fund but was unfortunately declined due to the unavailability of funds.

Many like her are wondering ‘what now’ as some have not been given any feedback on their applications.

As a freelancer, Linda has no other ways of getting assistance and she now depends on her mother’s pension money to survive.

“It never rains but pours. I just received an email that my application to the Basa relief fund has been declined because they have reached capacity. I ask again, sizolithaphi ke usizo?…I have to rely on my mother’s pension to put food on the table, such a sad reality,” she said in a Facebook post.

The Lockdown actress also says as a taxpayer this is very disappointing as the Arts department goes incognito when they need help in a time of distress.

“Artists are some of the people that are hardest hit by this lockdown, we are told that we don’t qualify for the relief funding, where are we supposed to go, what are we supposed to eat.

“We are expected to provide for our families from empty pockets. We are taxpayers, contributing 25% to tax yet the government is still not able to assist us,” she proclaimed.
