Amanda Benedicta Antony, better known by her stage name Amanda Black, is a singer and songwriter from South Africa. She was born on July 24, 1993. She rose to stardom in 2016 after the release of her smash single “Amazulu,” which received many music award nominations.

Her debut studio album, Amazulu (2016), was a commercial success, earning her awards for “Album of the Year,” “Best Newcomer of the Year,” “Best Female Artist of the Year,” and “Best R&B Soul/Reggae Album.

In 2019, she was named the most-streamed artist on Apple Music

Amanda’s third studio album, Mnyama, was released in 2021. “Kutheni Na” and “Let It Go” were the two singles that preceded it.

She started singing at a young age in church and at school until she was twelve years old, when she entered talent events and was exposed to stage performance.

She competed in three seasons of Idols South Africa, but it was in Season 11, when she reached the top 7, that she became a fan favorite. She moved to Johannesburg in January 2016 to pursue her music career, and Ambitiouz Entertainment approached her and offered her a recording contract.

On July 1, 2016, she released “Amazulu,” the first official single from her debut studio album. The song has almost 4 million views on YouTube. On November 11, 2016, she released Amazulu, her long-awaited debut album, to commercial success and positive critical praise through Ambitiouz Entertainment.

In less than a month after its release, the album sold over 31,000 copies, earning it platinum certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa. It also earned her five nominations at the 16th Metro FM Music Awards and the 2017 South African Music Awards, respectively. She was also nominated for Viewers Choice Best International Act at the 2017 BET Awards.

On June 4, 2021, she released “Kutheni Na” alongside Kwesta as the second single from her album. “Let It Go,” her third single, was released on July 2, 2021. Mnyama, her third studio album, came out on August 6, 2021.

Amanda Black is a great and talented artist. She makes good music, but maybe she should try something new like Amapiano. She might sound nice on an Amapiano track…. Do you agree?
