FAMILY CONFIRMS HER DEATH
With an illustrious career spanning decades, she quickly became one of the most celebrated actresses in South Africa and internationally.

She has starred in several drama series, but her on-screen character, Mam Sonto, on the Mzansi Magic drama series Gomora, will forever be one of her iconic roles on small screens.

Confirmed reports have it that the actress died at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg. However, little is known about the cause of death as of yet.

The late Connie Chiume’s family has since released a statement confirming her death.

Connie Chiume’s family said, “The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume.

“Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on the 6th of August, 2024. The family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details.”

Speaking to the media, Connie Chiume’s son revealed that the actress was scheduled for the medical procedure before her death.
