Mondli Makhoba finally speaks on his intimacy scene with Khanyi Mbau on The Wife
Many people praised The Wife’s season 2 viral intimacy scene for setting a higher standard for similar situations on regional big and small screens. But it also sparked an ongoing discussion on social media about whether or not people experienced true closeness.
The second season of “The Wife” centered on Nkosana Zulu and Zandile Ngcobo. Khanyi Mbau and Mondli Makhoba portray the characters. They had a memorable television moment where there was a clear intimate scenario that topped the charts.
Khanyi Mbau denied any sort of penetration between her and Mondli Makhoba on Twitter, claiming they weren’t even in the same room at the time the video was taken.
Earlier this month, Mondli appeared as a guest on the podcast And Chill With MacG. He discussed this scene and how anything can go wrong if it is not done properly.
“It was a very difficult thing to do.” There had to be a lot of mental preparation since it may be sexual harassment… Regardless of how hard we work, I need to know how the other person feels. “I need to know how far I can travel, where I can go, and where I can’t go,” he explained.
“Because the choreography was designed in the manner of a dance, we had to comprehend the entire piece. Because I was leading this dance and the director had said, “I want three positions,” I had to count each time, he said.
The actor wants a moment that would test them, he continued. If you do it correctly, it will open doors for you, like it did for me when I saw that scene.
Mondli claimed to have spoken to his wife before shooting the scene. He is married. She allegedly gave him the go-ahead and told him to continue.
“She texted me and said, ‘Go all the way.'” Don’t be afraid to go all the way, and I believe it helped me a lot because you know when you’re doing something and you’re thinking, ‘eish, I’m going to be in trouble when I get home…’ “I didn’t have that; I got permission from home and was able to do it,” he explained.
On the other hand, Khanyi expressed her gratitude to her bae Kudzai Mushonga for letting her record the incident as well.
“Your level of support baby, the way you let me chase my dreams and want to see become the best in all I do is incredible and honestly the wind beneath my wind. My silent cheer leader and fighter, my family, my guide. How do you do it? Truly beats me. My love, my hubby, my heart… thank you for remaining constant.”
