The South African radio community is in mourning following the untimely passing of Ukhozi FM presenter Nondumiso Shazi, who hosted the beloved Sunday school show Vumelani Abantwana Beze Kimi. Shazi, only 33 years old, passed away on Thursday, 21 November, at Addington Hospital in Durban after battling persistent headaches and tremors for a month.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT AND CONFIRMATION

SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the broadcaster, highlighting Shazi’s contribution to the station and her meaningful role in fulfilling the SABC’s public service mandate.

“Shazi started working at the SABC in June 2023. She has played a meaningful role in fulfilling the SABC’s public service mandate from a programming perspective. She will be deeply missed by her colleagues, friends, and listeners of the station. It must be noted that she did not collapse at work as alleged,” clarified Seapolelo.

Shazi is the fifth Ukhozi FM presenter to pass away in recent years, following the losses of Bonga Ndaba, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu, and Irvin Sihlophe.
