Brenda Mhlongo, the 42-year-old actress who portrays KaMadonsela on the popular telenovela *Imbewu*, is facing backlash after an intense on-set meltdown in which she allegedly attacked a producer. According to multiple sources present during the incident, Mhlongo reportedly throttled the producer, leaving many shocked as the producer screamed for help.

Eyewitnesses claim that when questioned about her actions, Mhlongo explained that she had “got too much into her character and the *dlozi* (spiritual ancestor) took over.” The outburst has been attributed to the challenging and tense atmosphere on set, which some say has been deteriorating since new management took over the production.

One insider, who spoke anonymously to protect his job, revealed that conditions have become toxic, with rude and unprofessional crew members mistreating actors and other staff. “Many people have been on depression pills since the new management took over,” the source added, further stating that employees are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their jobs.

This incident follows a wave of mass firings last year, including prominent actors like Fundiswa Zwane, Phindile Gwala, Nkanyiso Mchunu, and Buhle Samuels. The shake-up has reportedly contributed to the heightened stress on set.

*Imbewu* is produced by Duma Ka Ndlovu, with executive producers Anant Singh and Leleti Khumalo. However, e.tv spokesperson Bennum van Jaarsveld downplayed the incident, stating that Mhlongo went into a “real trance” and needed to be calmed down before filming could resume.

Mhlongo has yet to respond to questions regarding the incident. Despite the on-set tension, the show continues to air, and this incident adds another layer of controversy to the production’s already strained environment.
