“They Almost Killed My Son Over a Schoolbag!” — Mother Cries for Justice After Brutal School Attack
The community of Vosloorus is in shock after a violent school incident left a 16-year-old boy fighting for his life in ICU. Thapelo Motha, a Grade 10 learner at Thuto Lesedi Secondary School, was allegedly beaten by a group of fellow learners — all because they wanted his schoolbag.
His mother, Nomthandazo Ndaba (39), described the moment she got the heartbreaking call from the school on 23 July. “They told me he had been in a fight,” she said. “But when I arrived, he was bleeding, vomiting, and barely breathing. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
Thapelo was rushed to hospital where doctors found a fractured nose and severe injuries to his left eye, requiring urgent surgery. He remains in intensive care, fighting to recover.
💔 “He never told me he was being bullied,” Nomthandazo said. “I just want justice. They almost killed my son over a schoolbag.”
The alleged attackers — a group of boys from the same school — reportedly targeted Thapelo during a break. Eyewitnesses claim they demanded his bag, and when he refused, they assaulted him violently.
The incident has been reported to police and is under investigation. However, the family is demanding that the Department of Education and school authorities take urgent action.
Community members and activists have condemned the incident, calling for stricter anti-bullying policies and better safety measures in schools.
