Tol A$$ Mo apologises to Gogo Skhotheni
Tol A$$ Mo has just apologised to Gogo Skhotheni over the insensitive comments he had about her son’s death. Here is what happened…
South African comedian Tol A$$ Mo, whose real name is Mongezi Mahlangu, has apologised to Gogo Skhotheni over his comments regarding her son’s, Monde Junior, death.
The comedian has previously talked on an episode of Podcast and Chill about the practice of traditional healers, such as Skhotheni, using muti during pregnancy. Tol A$$ Mo’s words implied that Skhotheni’s practices played a part in her son’s passing in September 2024 when he was in the ICU.
TOL A$$ MO’S APOLOGY
The words of Tol A$$ Mo had led to him receiving backlash from South Africans along with Skhotheni and her husband. After the backlash, the comedian took to Instagram in a now-deleted post to apologise.
According to IOL, The post included the comedian preaching in the church as his statement showed how he regretted what he said. He also stated that he won’t celebrate his 39th birthday until Skhotheni forgives him. Here is his statement:
“I want to take a moment to sincerely apologise for my words. In the heat of the moment, I spoke without truly understanding the depth of pain that comes with losing a child. I realise now how insensitive my words may have been, and I deeply regret any hurt I may have caused. Loss Is something no-one should have to experience, and I can’t begin to imagine the pain of those who have. I take full accountability for my words, and I am truly sorry. Moving forward, I will be more mindful and considerate in my speech, ensuring that I lead with empathy and understanding.”
HOW DID SKHOTHENI REACT?
After Tol A$$ Mo’s initial comments, Gogo Skhotheni talked on her TikTok account about how hurtful his words were and that what he implied was reckless.
Skhotheni’s husband, Monde Shange, also responded to the comedian’s comments as he took to Instagram and said:
“There are lines that should never be crossed, and one of them is speaking on the loss of someone’s child with disrespect and ignorance. @tolassmothegamer, the comment you made about my wife and my son’s passing is beyond hurtful – it’s reckless and inhumane. My wife, as a mother, has been carrying unimaginable pain every single day since Monde Junior left us. To suggest that her work as a traditional healer had anything to do with his passing is not only false but deeply offensive.”
He then concluded by saying:
“No parent deserves to bury their own child, and no grieving mother should have to endure such baseless accusations while trying to heal. I don’t know what made you think it was okay to say that, but I need you to understand the weight of your words. This isn’t something to speculate about or use for attention–it’s our real life, our real pain. Respect our loss. Respect my wife @gogo_skhotheni. And most importantly, respect Monde Junior’s memory.”
