Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola has fiercely condemned the horrifying murder of two young children in Soshanguve, Gauteng. The children, aged just four and seven, tragically lost their lives when their shack was deliberately set ablaze by gunmen, who were reportedly targeting their father.

This appalling crime comes on the heels of another violent incident in the area. Earlier, the same suspects allegedly opened fire at a local shebeen, shooting six people and killing two. The brutality of these events has left the community in shock and mourning.

In his statement, Lamola expressed deep outrage. “It is unconscionable that such horrific incidents occur during a period when our country is commemorating Child Protection Week,” he said. “This tragedy highlights the urgent need for swift and decisive action from law enforcement. The full might of the law must be demonstrated to ensure justice for the victims and their grieving families.”

Lamola’s words reflect the growing frustration among South Africans who are calling for an end to the senseless violence that continues to claim innocent lives. The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects responsible for this devastating act.

Lamola also spoke out against another shocking incident that took place in Glenmore, KwaZulu-Natal, where a family was viciously attacked, allegedly for their support of Palestine. This assault resulted in the tragic death of a woman, while her husband and son were left fighting for their lives after an attempted murder.

“This senseless act of violence, which led to the death of a woman and the attempted murder of her husband and son, is a blatant attack on South Africa’s Constitutionally-guaranteed rights to freedom of association, expression, and political choice,” Lamola declared. He called for a full investigation into the matter and for justice to be swiftly served.

The minister’s statements underscore the critical need for law enforcement to act decisively in both cases, not only to bring the perpetrators to justice but also to restore a sense of security to the communities affected. These tragedies highlight the ongoing challenges faced by vulnerable communities and the importance of upholding the nation’s constitutional rights. – SAnews.gov.za
