He was starring as Don on the popular Mzansi Magic’s telenovela Gomora. Announcing his departure, the star thanked the show’s cast and crew for the support and understanding that they showed him.

He also apologized to his fans assuring them that he is getting better. He wrote, “I apologise to the multitudes of my fans for my exit and hope you continue to support the show, especially the young crop of actors who are really doing their best to make it exciting. I am currently receiving the best medical treatment, and I am in high spirits having passed what I believe to be the worst stage of my situation.”

Israel said the illness made it difficult for him to do his job as he could no longer use his legs properly, “It also makes it difficult for me to perform as an artist or throw in those Ghetto Professors’ dance moves that you know me for when invited to gigs. The growing demands of my job at Gomora made it difficult for me to give my all to the show due to this illness that effectively rendered me semi-crippled,” as quoted by Sunday World.

The actor also shared that he had to quit smoking after his doctor told him that smoking could be the cause of his illness which according to his doctor is normally caused by high blood and sugar diabetes.

He recently opened up to Sunday World about this healing journey. The actor said it did not take him long because he accepted his situation and dealt with it. He added that he is still working on his brain as it is the only thing that is prolonging his healing process.

“My brain has not accepted that I don’t have my other leg. I would have recovered a long time ago, but because of the falling, it took a bit of time,” he told the publication, also adding that he will be getting his prosthetic leg in three months,” he told the publication.
