AKA AND TIBZ MURDER CASE: BHEKI CELE ON WHY HE ATTENDED COURT CASE

The Minister of Police Bheki Cele said he often attends court proceedings of high-profile people and AKA’s case was no exception. Kiernan Jarryd Forbes also known as AKA and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane were shot and killed on 10 February last year.

“There’s nothing awkward about me being here. I usually attend and avail myself of these high-profile cases.

“The case has put a lot of pressure on all of us, the nation, the ministry, the law enforcement and all that. The first time, it could be good to be there and see how are the proceedings and hear how much work has been put into the matter,” Cele said.

MORE ABOUT THE SUSPECTS

Five out of seven suspects appeared in court on Thursday. Two of the other suspects are still apprehended in Eswatini, eNCA reported. Tony Forbes, the father of the late rapper AKA was also in court today and said he was told that extradition is complex and can take time.

“It can take up to three months. We don’t control it as from this side [of the country] so I didn’t expect that it was going to be quick,” he said.

Minister Bheki Cele also shed some light on the matter. “That process has nothing to do with us altogether. It has to do with the justice. I did speak with the Minister of Justice and it doesn’t look like there are serious issues at the present moment, but we don’t know. These things have twists and turns,” Cele said.
