KHUNE CONGRATULATES BAFANA’S RONWEN WILLIAMS

The Kaizer Chiefs legend and captain, who has been regarded as Mzansi’s finest goalkeeper for many years, congratulated Williams for helping the team advance to the semi-finals.

“Best In The Country and Continent 🧤 @ronwen30 give him his 🌹 🌺 4 Penalty Saves 🙌🏽 #Respect Boeta 🤝”

FOUR PENALTY SAVES

Williams, who is also the Bafana team captain, saved four penalties to help South Africa reach the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following a 0-0 draw against the Blue Sharks.

Undoubtedly a contender for the Best Goalkeeper award at the end of the tournament, the Sundowns goalkeeper made a spectacular late save after Gilson Benchimol’s strike which ensured the quarter-final entered extra time.

And there was more from Williams who blocked Cape Verde’s first three penalties by diving to his right. He saved the last spot kick by diving to his left.

The 32-year-old became the second South African goalkeeper after Andre Arendse in 1996 to keep four successive clean sheets at a Nations Cup finals.

Bafana meet rivals Nigeria in their semifinal at Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on Wednesday at 19:00 SA time.
