‘Your future is in your hands SA’: South Africa will hold the General National elections on 29 May, President Cyril Ramahosa announced.

South Africans on X (the social media platform previously known as Twitter) came in numbers in the comment section on Tuesday, 20 February after the Presidential office revealed the date of the 2024 General National and Provincial elections.


President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office announced that South Africa will hold national and provincial elections on 29 May.

“President Cyril Ramaphosa has in accordance with section 49(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, read with section 17 of the Electoral Act of 1998, determined 29 May 2024, as the date for the 2024 General National and Provincial elections,” the statement read.

“The 2024 elections coincide with South Africa’s celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy. Therefore, President Ramaphosa calls on all eligible voters to fully participate in this important and historic milestone of our democratic calendar,” the statement added.

After taking a look at some reactions from South Africans on social media, Ramaphosa’s ruling African National Congress party will seemingly be faced with a tough challenge to win over some of the votes. Many citizens on X are evidently looking forward to the day of the elections. Some citizens have also shared that their goal with these upcoming elections is to “save South Africa”.


“We’re going to show you flames on the ballot paper 🤭,” @Ghostonlysa commented.

‘On the 29th of May 2024 we will be voting him out,” @simplyenny said.

“President Ramaphosa announces the date he will be voted out” sounds better🙂,” wrote.

“Your future is in your hands SA,” @gistwhere commented.

“The day we save South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🔥,” @sipho_monyane reacted.

“We will see if South Africans really mean it when they say they’ll vote out the ANC. I don’t believe y’all but I know the ANC won’t be getting my vote,” @TheAdvocacy_24 replied.
