WATCH: Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku’s father denied bail in her mother’s murder case
The father of Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku has been denied bail and his double murder case has been postponed to the 2nd of May for further police investigations.
William Manku, who is a police officer, appeared before the Magatle Magistrate’s Court in Zebediela today. He was arrested in January this year for the murder of his estranged wife, Gladys Manku, and his mother-in-law, Letty Maphuthoma, who were shot and killed in 2021.
Charges against his girlfriend, police sergeant Nonhlanhla Ngubo were withdrawn last week, while one of the men who was allegedly hired to carry out the murder abandoned his bail application.
Family member, Margaret Maphuthuma is glad that the court did not grant bail to her brother-in-law. Dzangi said that on the day of the incident, the 70-year-old mother and her 45-year-old daughter were shot dead by unknown suspects while fetching water at a local tap. “At the time, Amanda’s grandmother was also in company of her son who was injured during the shooting and survived. After the murders, the police started with the investigations that identified the suspects and subsequent arrests were affected.
Mashaba further said that the firearms confiscated during the arrests will be subjected to a ballistic test. The motor vehicle which was used to commit the crimes and a phone belonging to Amanda’s mother were also seized,” said Dzangi.
