Woman dies after being set on fire by her partner

42-year-old woman named Linell du Toit sadly passed away after being poured by petrol and was set on fire by her lover.

According to The Citizen, Linell du Toit fought for her life in the Sebokeng Hospital since October 26 but succumbed to her injuries on November 3.

Linell suffered third to fourth-degree burns over 80% of her body.

The incident took place on Saturday, October 26 around 17:30 at an apartment in Uniestraat where Linell and her partner shared an apartment.

In a closed-circuit video of the incident, one can see how a fire breaks out at the apartment and how a resident of the apartment building then extinguishes the flames.

In a video that circulated on social media last week, Linell spoke about what happened that day.

“He poured petrol over me and set me on fire. There were so many flames. Everything was on fire. He struggled to crawl out of there,” she said.

In the video, Linell said her partner told her to say it was an accident.

“It wasn’t an accident,” she stated.

The partner is being treated in the same hospital for burns he sustained during the incident.

Sedibeng Ster decided not to mention the man’s name until he is formally charged and has pleaded in court.

Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a police spokesperson, confirmed that the man will now be charged with murder.
