A horrifying case of gender-based violence has left South Africa in shock.Ā Nompumelelo Gumede, a 22-year-old woman fromĀ eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, is currently fighting for her life in ICU after herĀ boyfriend and father of her child allegedly set her on fire. š

According to reports, the manĀ poured petrolĀ on both Nompumelelo andĀ his own sister, locked them in a room, andĀ set it on fire. The sister was reportedly trying toĀ protect Nompumelelo from ongoing abuseĀ when the tragic incident occurred.
š„ Both women sustainedĀ severe burnsĀ and remain inĀ critical conditionĀ at the hospital.
