Enhle: I was single mum even when married
ACTRESS and fashion designer Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa believes she’s been a single parent even when she was married to her ex-husband Black Coffee.
She recently opened up about her journey as a single mum during an interview with Relebogile Mabotja on her radio show Upside of Failure on Talk Radio 702.
The 37-year-old Enhle, who’s known for acting on Mtunzini.com, iNkaba, Moferefere Lenyalong, Soul City, Sokhulu and Partners, Rhythm City, Rockville, 7de Laan, The Herd, iSibaya, and Queen Sono, shared that she had previously experienced being a “single married woman” and that the main difference now lies in the financial responsibilities of single parenting.
Enhle said that she was raised in a family of women.
“I didn’t realise I was raised by a single parent until I went to different people’s homes and then I saw that. It was my norm and balanced. The women in my family are strong and they all filled space in my life,” she said.
She said that being a single mother now is not too hard.
“Without sounding like I’m putting anyone in a bad light, but I was a single married woman as well so the shift to single parenthood was just financial,” she said.
She said that her boys love both their parents.
“I’m grateful that I raised them how I did and it’s what I learned, there’s love and fun it’s a balancing act and I perfected it I think,” she said.
Enhle said that in her journey she was alone a lot with the kids.
“I found myself being the foundation of the home,” she said.
She said that she wasn’t ready for marriage.
“I was married at 21 years, I was a baby, and I thought I had everything together, right? So, when you sprung in that situation at 21 and you think ‘I know everything, this is going to be easy, we are in love anyway and love conquers all’. It’s all a fairytale and you soon learn that life is more real in what you make it out to be,” she said.
