L.T. General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi Praised As Olorato Mongale Murder Case’s Main Suspect Gets Killed In A Shootout. The public is rejoicing as one of three fugitives linked to the murder of Olorato Mongale was fatally shot by police in Durban in the early hours on Friday.
Philangenkosi Makhanya was located by police at a residential complex in Amanzimtoti, this morning. It is alleged that when police announced their arrival, he shot at police, they then returned fire and he was fatally wounded. He was found with 20 cellphones & 28 ID Cards. This is in connection of the case Olorato Mongale who went missing on Sunday, 25 May 2025. Her lifeless body was later found dumped in Lombardy, north of Johannesburg. The 30-year-old was a Master’s student from the University of Witwatersrand.
Other suspects, who are currently on the run are Fezile Ngubane and Makhanya’s friend Bongani Mthimkhulu. The trio are believed to be a part of a syndicate targeting young women, using a specific modus operandi. Several women have come forward, tying the trio to a syndicate involved in abducting women.
The shooting of Makhanya has General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, being hailed a hero. Many are happy with how the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner is handling hardened criminals in the Province.
