Actress gets married at first sight
THE last two couples of Married At First Sight South Africa have officially tied the knot.
The first couple, Tshepo Miya (37) and Palesa Mphaki (33), seemed happy with each other, while the second couple, Nkululeko Mahlangu (32) and Makoto Phumodi (32), had an argument just minutes into their honeymoon suite.
One of the cast members this season is actress Makoto Phumodi, known for her roles on Side Dish, Nikiwe and Champions.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own family. I wanted to get married young. I think that’s why I had a baby when I was 23 because in my head, being a single mum was not even an option.
“I thought ‘I’m going to get married to this person, we’re going to have a beautiful family’, but I guess God had other plans,” Makoto said.
The actress said she’s been meeting the wrong guys.
“I think for the longest of time, I came across guys who just want to taste the cookie jar and not necessarily love me the way I wanted to be loved.
“Regardless of the trauma and the pain, I feel like when I love or I’m being loved, I feel like I am at my best. I don’t want a talking stage, I don’t want dating, I don’t want a relationship. We are taking it straight to ‘I do’,” she said.
Her husband, Nkululeko, said he had a cheating problem, but he’s a changed man.
“I’ve changed a lot. There are a lot of things I’ve been exposed to. I have grown in the faith. So, the only thing that I feel was missing was my companion,” he said.
However, the couple didn’t hit it off. Just a few minutes into their honeymoon suite, they had a heated argument due to Nkululeko’s beliefs.
Makoto said she felt as though Nkululeko was imposing his beliefs on her.
“He wants me to compromise and sacrifice, and I’m not willing to let anybody impose their beliefs on me because I’m not imposing my beliefs on them,” she said.
The other couple fell in love instantly. Tshepo said his wife was more than what he expected.
“I’m shocked. This is not what I expected. I’m surprised. I think I’m getting more than what I expected. A sight for sore eyes, to be quite honest,” he said.
Palesa said she felt safe with her husband.
“Instantly, I just felt like I can just be myself here. I don’t have to pretend to be anything that I am not,” she said.
All four couples are now going on their honeymoon.
