Media personality Minnie Dlamini is set to bring her magic to the stage as she hosts the very first “African Icons” Tribute Concert in Durban on 24 September. The event will celebrate the life and legacy of the late Joseph Shabalala, founder of the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and will be spearheaded by Grammy Award-winning producer and cultural icon Lebo M.

According to Daily Sun, the celebration kicks off this Saturday, 20 September, with a special tribute at Nu Metro’s VIP Cinema. This event will serve as the official launch of the concert and will include the world premiere of Nkosinathi Shabalala’s music video Misebenzi, which pays tribute to his late father.

Lebo M, whose real name is Lebohang Morake, has achieved global recognition for his work on Disney’s The Lion King franchise. Known for his powerful compositions and ability to blend African sound with global platforms, Lebo M has long been celebrated as a cultural ambassador. Speaking about the launch, Lebo M and his team described it as deeply personal, saying:

The celebration will then move to its grand moment on Heritage Day, Wednesday 24 September 2025, at the Durban Playhouse. The star-studded concert promises to be unforgettable, with performances from some of South Africa’s biggest names, including Big Zulu, Khuzani, Blaq Diamond, Sjava, Boity Thulo, Mnqobi Yazo, Naima Kay, Thee Legacy, and Nkosinathi Shabalala. The entire evening will be guided by the charismatic hosting of Minnie Dlamini, ensuring an event that blends entertainment with cultural pride.
