Award-winning soulful-pop sensation Lloyiso recently hosted his listening session at The Shed Farmhouse on Tuesday, 23 September.
The intimate evening, hosted in collaboration with Stella Artois, gave guests a chance to celebrate Lloyiso’s journey and preview his new single ‘Scary’ from the upcoming EP Never Thought I Could.
Scary is the emotional lead single that introduces fans to the themes of heartbreak, vulnerability, and self-discovery in Lloyiso’s work.
The South African caught up with him at the EP listening session, where he opened up about his new single and upcoming project.
“Scary is about heartbreak, realising that the most important part about loving someone is understanding your true self,” Lloyiso explains.
The track digs into therapy, self-reflection, and accountability, offering raw honesty about personal struggles, relationships, and learning from past mistakes.
“When I started writing this song, I realised a lot about myself. That’s when I began therapy and discovered it was deeper than just not showing up for someone I liked, making mistakes, or unintentionally hurting them. Most importantly, I realised that I am the problem—it’s not you, it’s me.”
His lyrics embody universal truths, balancing vulnerability with strength, making Scary a song that resonates far beyond his own experiences.

THE MEANING BEHIND NEVER THOUGHT I COULD
Lloyiso rose to superstardom as a finalist on Idols South Africa Season 11, impressing audiences with his powerful, soulful voice.
The upcoming EP reflects his growth since entering the music industry as a teenager full of ambition.
“It speaks about the struggles of my career as a whole, since I was 16 years old,” he shared.
Now living independently, the project captures lessons of hardship, identity, and perseverance gained from navigating life as a young South African artist.
The EP’s title also honours his journey toward creative freedom, releasing music that feels authentic rather than confined by industry expectations.
INSPIRATIONS, VULNERABILITY, AND WHAT’S NEXT
Lloyiso has recently undergone a massive weight transformation and reflects on a moment in his journey when he was surprised by what he was capable of achieving.
“I’ve always been quite insecure about my body, but I went through a transformation and lost a lot of weight. I’m really proud of that. I think going through painful experiences, like breakups, also played a part in helping me grow and achieve this change.
Lloyiso credits diverse influences, including Sam Smith, Amanda Black, gospel, and pop music, blending global inspiration with his South African roots.
“There’s something in our blood as South Africans when it comes to music,” he said, reflecting on performing abroad.
Through this EP, he hopes listeners embrace vulnerability and learn the importance of sharing feelings, struggles, and stories of personal resilience.
With a European tour set for October, Lloyiso is determined to take his unique voice further onto the global stage.
