“They almost killed my son over a schoolbag!” — A mother is still fighting for justice

Vosloorus, South Africa – A mother’s cry for justice echoes through the streets of Vosloorus after her 16-year-old son, Thapelo Motha, was brutally attacked at Thuto Lesedi Secondary School.

According to his mother, Nomthandazo Ndaba (39), the attack happened over something as simple — and heartbreaking — as a schoolbag.

“They almost killed my son over a schoolbag,” she said, tears in her eyes. “He’s now fighting to see again… all because of this.”

The Attack

Thapelo was allegedly ambushed and beaten by a group of boys at his school. The motive? They wanted his schoolbag.

When the school called his mother to report “a fight,” she rushed there — only to find her son bleeding, vomiting, and struggling to breathe.

He was immediately taken to hospital and admitted to the ICU with a fractured nose and severe injuries to his left eye, which required surgery.

“He never said anything… maybe he was scared. But now, he’s in hospital, and I just want justice. Those boys must be held accountable.”
