“They almost killed my son over a schoolbag!” — A mother is still fighting for justice

Vosloorus, South Africa – A mother’s cry for justice echoes through the streets of Vosloorus after her 16-year-old son, Thapelo Motha, was brutally attacked at Thuto Lesedi Secondary School.

According to his mother, Nomthandazo Ndaba (39), the attack happened over something as simple — and heartbreaking — as a schoolbag.

“They almost killed my son over a schoolbag,” she said, tears in her eyes. “He’s now fighting to see again… all because of this.”

The Attack

Thapelo was allegedly ambushed and beaten by a group of boys at his school. The motive? They wanted his schoolbag.

When the school called his mother to report “a fight,” she rushed there — only to find her son bleeding, vomiting, and struggling to breathe.

He was immediately taken to hospital and admitted to the ICU with a fractured nose and severe injuries to his left eye, which required surgery.

A Mother’s Pain

Nomthandazo says her son never told her he was being bullied before.

“He never said anything… maybe he was scared. But now, he’s in hospital, and I just want justice. Those boys must be held accountable.”

Her words reflect the pain of many parents across South Africa who worry daily about their children’s safety at school.

The Call for Justice

The family has opened a police case, but Nomthandazo says the process has been slow. She is demanding that the Education Department and law enforcement take firm action against the perpetrators.

Local residents and parents have since joined her call for justice, urging schools to implement stricter anti-bullying policies and ensure better supervision on school grounds.

A Wake-Up Call

This incident has sparked outrage online, with many South Africans demanding accountability and better protection for students.

Thapelo’s story is a painful reminder that school violence is not just “kids fighting” — it’s a serious issue that can destroy young lives and families.

As Thapelo continues to recover, his mother remains determined:

“I won’t stop until justice is served. My son deserves that.”
