The deceased have been identified as Galaletsang Mokone (23) and his sister Gontse Lee Matjila (21). The pair were last seen in the early hours of Sunday, 21 December 2025, after visiting friends in Centurion on the night of Saturday, 20 December.

According to police, concern grew after the siblings lost contact with their family. Their mother reportedly last spoke to Gontse during a video call at approximately 03:00 on Sunday morning.

On Tuesday, 23 December, search and rescue teams located the siblings’ Hyundai i30 submerged in the Hennops River. The vehicle was recovered, and further searches led to the discovery of their bodies.

The siblings were officially reported missing later on Sunday afternoon at the Pretoria North Police Station, after which the case was transferred to Lyttelton SAPS for further investigation.

Search operations were initially hindered by heavy rainfall, rising water levels, and dense vegetation along the riverbanks. Despite these challenges, multiple emergency services and law-enforcement agencies continued their efforts until the tragic discovery was made.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
