A big fan puts a tattoo on his leg for Dricus Du
South Africans across the country are celebrating professional mixed martial artist Dricus Du Plessis. This after he defeated Sean Strickland to become the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight world champion. Many locals rushed online to share congratulatory messages with Du Plessis who arrived home earlier today, 25 January 2024.
Thousands of fans also visited O.R Tambo International Airport to welcome him home. Among the many fans was super fan Keenan Bender who couldn’t wait to show the UFC champion his new tattoo.
DRICUS DU PLESSIS GETS HERO’S WELCOME
On Sunday 21 January this year, South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis became the UFC middleweight world champion.
This after defeating Sean Strickland at the Scotiabank Arena in Ontario, Canada.
Many South Africans have celebrated his victory and haven’t stopped singing his praises online.
Earlier today, Dricus finally hit home ground and was given a well-deserved hero’s welcome at O.R Tambo International Airport.
Dozens of fans cheered him on as he waved for the crowd and signed autographs.
One super fan, Keenan Bender, couldn’t wait for the chance to show off his Dricus tattoo which he reportedly had done on Wednesday this week.
Photos and videos of ‘the real Dricus’ signing the tattoo have since gone viral on social media. Keenan’s dad Michael Bender headed to Facebook to post:
“My son Keenan decided to celebrate Dricus victory with a tattoo yesterday. Then Dricus signed it today so he’s going to have that done later today. Great day for SA.”
DAY ONE FAN
Speaking to Jacaranda FM about the tattoo, Keenan said that he has always believed in Dricus. He also shared how he had told Dricus that he would get the tattoo done if he won and so he did.
“I have always believed in him, I told my artist that we are getting a tattoo of him when he wins and he did it,” he said.
