A Soweto man tragically takes his own life following the death of his wife.

A madala from Soweto killed himself soon after his wife passed away because he could not bear to be without her.

One week after the man’s wife died and was buried on March 23, the woman’s husband killed himself. South Africans were devastated to learn that the man could not imagine life without his wife.

According to Sunday World, Eric Ndaba doused himself with petrol after his wife, Esther, was buried on March 23. His grandson, Phandelani, went to check on him on Saturday, March 30, and he found the gates to the house locked. He knocked, and when there was no response, he climbed over the fence.

Phandelani saw smoke coming out of the house, and after unsuccessfully knocking, the neighbours forcefully opened the door. They then found Ndaba lying on the floor, dead. Esther’s brother, Marcus Mahuma, revealed that Eric was depressed after his wife died and struggled to cope with her loss as a result of a broken heart.

Social media users were left heartbroken.

@EMKEM_Mike: “He really couldn’t live without her 😞 RIP to them 🙏🏿”

@Siya_Ndlumbini: “Depression is real and it kills, we gotta take care of each other whilst we are still able”

@SchoolsinNaija: “This is so painful. May their souls rest in peace, and may God grant their families the fortitude to bear the lose.”
