WHO IS NIA BROWN?

Sowetan reports that Nia Brown, real name Botlhale Baitsiwe is a 31-year-old YFM radio personality from Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

She has 12-years’ experience in radio and has been on YFM for seven years, where she’s hosted weekend slots and lunchtime shows.

The radio personality explains that she got her nickname, Nia Brown whens she was at campus radio. A friend of hers used to call her Botlhale Brown because of the colour of her eyes.

“So, I went on air using that name. When I joined Y in 2014, I remember having a conversation with the team at the time and we were discussing how I would trademark my name.”

“I realised that a lot of people would struggle to pronounce my name. So, I had to come up with something easy enough for people to remember. My other name is Rivonia, so I took the last part and trademarked it as Nia Brown,” she says.

IOL reported in 2023 that Nia Brown took over the breakfast show following the departure of long-time breakfast show hosts, DJ Ankletap (Bryce Clarke), and Kandis Kardash (Candice Coulsen).

Brown leads the station’s flagship breakfast show, The Way Up with Mthaux.

The publication adds that the Northern Cape-born radio personality has also worked on TV shows and stage productions, such as Ayeye and upcoming film, The Gang.
