Miss SA Top 10 finalist Chidimma Adetshina has officially withdrawn from the pageant, citing a fear for her safety and well-being.
The 23-year-old – who has previously spoken out about suicidal attempts – has faced scrutiny over her Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, who allegedly committed fraud and identity theft.
The shock announcement comes days before the pageant finale on Saturday, 10 August, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria.
CHIDIMMA WITHDRAWS FROM MISS SA
In a statement, Chidimma Adetshina seemingly responded to calls for her to step down as a Miss SA contestant. This follows Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber’s statement of preliminary investigation that claims her mother may have committed fraud and identity theft.
Chidimma’s statement reads: “Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey. However, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition for the safety and well-being of my family and me.
“With the support of the Miss South Africa organisation, I leave with a heart full of gratitude for this amazing experience.”

She added: “I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow finalists all of the best for the remainder of the competition. Whoever wears the crown represents us all”.
The young woman signed off using her full name, Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina.
The Instagram post – which had its comments turned off – was liked by the official account of the Miss SA pageant.

HOME AFFAIRS CALLS FOR CALM
Meanwhile, the Department of Home Affairs has called on citizens not to fuel the flames of xenophobia following amid their investigation.
“We call on South Africans to support our work by safeguarding due process, respecting the constitutional rights of all parties at all times, and refraining from inflaming divisions.
It added: “By upholding these principles, we can rebuild the rule of law, together”.
