Chicco Twala assault case postponed yet again

Music mogul and producer Sello “Chicco” Twala says he feels that the South African law treats him differently because of his status in the community. This comes after his assault case was postponed yet again by the Randburg Magistrates Court today. The musician was arrested after he allegedly assaulted two City Power employees, he reportedly mistook for cable thieves in May 2022.

MANY POSTPONEMENTS

Twala was released on R2 000 bailand his case was postponed for the 13th time today. The matter was postponed to February 16 for the prosecution to assess the health condition of the state’s witness. Twala’s celebrity lawyer, Lesley Sedibe, requested the court to strike the case off the roll after the state witness failed to appear as scheduled today. The state prosecutor in the matter explained to the court that the state witness had no medical records to confirm claims that he had an eye infection, injury or an eye operation.

NO CASE TO PROVE

A livid Twala told ZiMoja after the postponement that the state has no case to prove because he never assaulted anyone. “This case is dragging because it’s Chicco Twala who is the accused and I must feel that they are working and they are not. There is a guy who was arrested not so long time ago and his case was struck off the roll in front of me. I’m happy that my lawyer, has once again asked for the magistrate to strike this case off the roll because there is no case here,” he said. He said he was losing money as he has to pay a lawyer every time he appears in court. “The next appearance is next month and I know nothing will be discussed except to strike this case off the roll.” Meanwhile, the state witness is expected to explain to the court next month why he required three months for his reported eye infection to heal. A source close to Twala said the case may jeopardise the deals that Twala is currently getting from telenovelas such as Sibongile & The Dlaminis and My Brother’s Keeper on Mzansi Wethu and Mzansi Magic, respectively where he produced the soundtrack.
