Cyril Ramaphosa video calls Grammy winner Tyla
‘You have put South Africa on the map’: President Cyril Ramaphosa said to Tyla in a video call following her winning a Grammy.
President Cyril Ramaphosa decided to get in touch with Tyla Seethal after she flew the South African flag high and made history on Sunday, 4 February in the United States, becoming the youngest South African Grammy award-winner.

Tyla recently walked away with a Grammy in the category for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards premiere ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The 22-year-old is one in a few artists who won their first Grammys this year. According to Forbes, while some of the musicians who snagged their first Grammys have been around for many years, others only became proper stars recently.
The list includes, Miley Cyrus, Zack Bryan, Victoria Monét, Lil Durk, and Brandy Clark were named in the list of first-time Grammy winners recently.
On her Instagram feed, Tyla thanked all of the Grammy “winners and nominees” as she expressed her gratitude for her achievement.
“I am so honored to be the first winner of a Grammy under this newly introduced category… We made history!” she wrote.
Following her achievement, in a recently clip, President Cyril Ramaphosa was seen on a video call with Tyla.
In the clip, Ramaphosa can be heard saying to her: “You are excellent. We are so proud. You make me and all of us so proud. It’s phenomenal. You have lifted all of us. You have put South Africa on the map. We are on the map once again.”
