Kairo Forbes shared throwback photos to mark her father, slain rapper AKA’s 37th birthday on Tuesday 28 January.

KAIRO FORBES SHARES BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE TO AKA

Nine-year-old Kairo Forbes took to Instagram to share a birthday tribute to her father, slain rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA. AKA was shot dead outside of Wish Restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on 10 February 2023.

AKA only had one child and that is Kairo, who he welcomed with DJ Zinhle in 2025. To mark her dad’s 37th birthday, Kairo shared photos of what appears to be AKA kissing DJ Zinhle’s tummy while she was pregnant, and photos of AKA holding her as a baby. Take a look…

Kairo’s Instagram account, which has a whopping 1.5 million followers, is run by AKA’s mom Lynn Forbes.

KAIRO’S CIRCLE OF SUPPORT

The nine-year-old has a circle of support as she lost her father at such a young age. She has her mom, DJ Zinhle. The DJ is married to musician Murdah Bongz, who has taken on a step father role for Kairo.

Kairo also has her grandmother, Lynn who she spends a lot of time with, as well her grandfather Tony Forbes and uncle Steffan. At the time of his death, AKA was in a relationship with rapper Nadia Nakai, who Kairo is also close to.

Nadia broke down over the death of AKA on an episode of Young, Famous & African season three.

“My person is gone. So, it’s difficult. After losing Kiernan I like to tell people that I’m fine because I don’t want to worry people. And I feel like I’m okay to a certain extent until I’m alone,” she continued.

She also revealed that Lynn lived with her for a month to make sure she was okay following AKA’s death.
