She posted: “When shooting this film, I was called K**ir meit by a fellow white actor. Without conflict or provocation, may I add. In fact, I thought we were on good terms.

“This happened in front of many people… Mostly white background thespians who were there for the court scene. They gasped in shock. I cried the whole day.

She added: “Nothing happened to the actor”.

Brenda later revealed the name of the actor behind the alleged racial slur – David James.

She continued: “If anything happens to me and my child …..David James is his name.

“I can today talk about these events because I never signed the contract nor the non-disclosure addendum that followed.

Tagging the film’s director, Layla Swart, she added: “I WILL NOT BE SILENCED”.

Brenda alleges that her payment for filming was “delayed,” seemingly from the incident.

“Guess it was my punishment for not wanting to sign a contract with a clause that would prohibit me from ever sharing this moment.”

The South African has attempted to contact producer Layla Swart and acting agent Carlynn de Waal-Smit for comment on Brenda Ngxoli’s claims. None has been received at the time of publishing.

WHAT DOES SOUTH AFRICAN LAW SAY ABOUT RACIAL SLURS?

According to South African law, racial slurs are considered hate speech. This is outlined in Section 16 and Section 10 of the Equality Act.

In 2018, Johannesburg woman Vicki Momberg became the first South African to be prosecuted for her racist rant in a landmark ruling, reported The Gaurdian.

According to the South African Human Rights Commission, “hate speech has no place in a constitutional democracy founded on the values of dignity and equality”.
