While social media users often joked about Tito Mboweni dying of food poisoning thanks to his crazy culinary concoctions, his passing after a short illness has come with great shock and sadness to many South Africans.

The former Minister of Finance and Reserve Bank Governor was known for his experimental cooking, which he posted on his X [Twitter] account.

Tito often laughed along with comments teasing both his food and his fashion sense.

THUMBS UP FOR LAST MEAL POSTED ON X

While Tito Mboweni last tweeted on 1 October, pictures of his last meal were shared last month.

According to the 65-year-old, he chose to make a hearty chicken stew following a cold front that hit his home province of Limpopo.

In true Tito style, the former minister used plenty of garlic and chunks of onions and tomato.

He served the meal – which looked surprisingly edible – with a side of pap.

“This is how it ended. I enjoyed them bones. Home-cooked meals are great”, he proudly tweeted.

According to Tito Mboweni’s X followers, the food was a “big improvement” and even “looked delicious.”

While Tito Mboweni bragged about his improved cooking skills in recent months, his home-cooked meals weren’t always appealing.

In fact, Tito was known for his late-night experiments in the kitchen with bizarre ingredients and methods.
