Basetsana Kumalo celebrated her 50th birthday in style with three-day festivities over the Easter weekend. The jubilee celebration comes just days after the former Miss South Africa and her husband Romeo Kumalo attended the sentencing of Jackie Phamotse in their defamation case.

On Friday, 29 March, Basetsana Kumalo turned 50 years old.

She shared in an Instagram post: “It was God ordained and anointed that I turn fifty on Good Friday.

“I am one highly favoured woman. On this Jubilee year, marking half a century, I thank the Lord who has carried me through the years. I am who I am because greater is He that is in me than the one that is in the world”.

According to the Sunday Times, the media mogul invited VIP guests to attend her “golden jubilee” celebration in Cape Town over the Easter weekend.

The three-day itinerary kicked off with a dinner themed “Boogie Wonderland” at the Pigalle restaurant on Friday evening.

The next day, guests were treated to a lavish party called “The Gratitude Banquet and Birthday Celebration” at Tokai’s sprawling Norval Foundation.

On Sunday, festivities continue with a Thanksgiving picnic in Bishopscourt.

Celebrities like Thuli Madonsela, Tamaryn Green, Nandi Madida, Zakes Bantwini, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Pearl Thusi attended the celebrations.

Basetsana wore two glittering gowns at her Friday night party courtesy of Gavin Rajah and Hangwani Nengovhela’s Rubicon Clothing.

Addressing guests, her husband Romeo said during his speech: “You could have been somewhere else, and here you are on this special occasion celebrating this amazing woman that I call my wife. The mother of my children, and the love of my life.”

Earlier this week, Basetsana Kumalo and husband Romeo attended the sentencing hearing of Jackie Phamotse at the Randburg Magistrates Court.

This follows their defamation lawsuit against the controversial author, who infamously alleged that Romeo had engaged in sexual activity with another man in a 2018 tweet.

Jackie was found guilty of defamation, crimen injuria, and violating a protection order. She was sentenced to two years of house arrest with a fine and unpaid community service.

According to IOL, Basetsana claimed the judgment served as “justice” for her family.

She said outside the court: “This unprecedented judgment is a victory not only for my family but for every South African that works hard to earn an honest living.

“This is also for every South African child that has been cyberbullied. Now, South Africans have a recourse. They can come to the courts and seek justice should they be cyber bullied.”
