Gogo Elizabeth Setshedi (121) was the oldest citizen in the Moretele Local Municipality in North West.

The time to hand over the baton has arrived.
The local municipality officials will be attending the funeral on Saturday, 17 May 2025, at Slagboom village in North West.
This is according to Moretele Local Municipality spokesman Mothupi Malebye paying tribute to the family.
Gogo Elizabeth Setshedi (121) died at the Jubilee Hospital in Hammanskraal, Tshwane, on 8 May.
“It’s all system go for preparations to bury North West’s oldest person, Gogo Elizabeth Benya Setshedi.
“The old lady died last week on her peaceful sleep. The who’s who of the province are expected to descent on the village of Slaagboom Moretele Municipality in the North West province to give a send-off,” he said.
He said the celebrated citizen would have turned 122 years old in July this year.
“The late Elizabeth was born on 16 July 1903 in the village called DE Bosveld, Moved to Polompo, later to Tawane and relocated to Slaagboom Village where she spent her entire life until she met her death,” said Malebye.
Her daughter, Martha Zitha (84), said that the family is devastated about her death.
“She was our pillar of strength,” she said.
She said that her mother loved ispatlo made of chips, polony, egg, and russian sausage and was blessed with 12 children, 58 grandchildren, 103 great grandchildren, and 43 great great grandchildren.
She leaves behind her four children, great and great great grandchildren.
Gogo Elizabeth will be laid to rest at the Slagboom Cemetery.
The service will start at 7am.
