Harriet Manamela recovered from surgery
In a surprising turn of events, Skeem Saam made an announcement that Florence Masebe would be stepping in to temporarily fill the shoes of Harriet Manamela as “Meikie Maputla” on SABC1’s Skeem Saam. This unexpected twist came about due to the original Meikie needing to take a well-deserved sick leave from the show.
“The decision came after Manamela needed to be placed on sick leave for an extended period. Manamela’s last scene for the season will air on April 5. From May 15 the character of ‘Meikie Maputla’ will be played by Florence Masebe,” read the statement.
In a recent Instagram post, Harriet Manamela shared the news of her hip replacement surgery at the start of 2024. She’s taking a break from shooting on Skeem Saam to focus on her recovery. Wishing her a speedy and successful recuperation! The actress shares that the surgery went swimmingly and she’s currently on a well-deserved break at home until she’s fully recovered.

I had a hip replacement surgery beginning of the year hence I was given a break from shooting. Thank you to everyone for wishing me well even though there was no clear explanation why I had to be off the screen & production had to find a sit in for me. She explained: “Now that production is on a shooting break it’s more time to enjoy seeing people & catching up 😘My family as always my strength is derived from your love 💕 My colleagues checking up on me as often as you do melts my heart and to my friends taking moments to enjoy the sunshine with me, ” priceless”😍”

TVSA reports that Harriet Manamela was one of the original starring casts in the soapie when it debuted on SABC1 on 13 October 2011.The publication adds that Manamela became ill during the filming of season 12 and was placed on sick leave for an extended period of time.
