In a surprising turn of events, Skeem Saam made an announcement that Florence Masebe would be stepping in to temporarily fill the shoes of Harriet Manamela as “Meikie Maputla” on SABC1’s Skeem Saam. This unexpected twist came about due to the original Meikie needing to take a well-deserved sick leave from the show.
“The decision came after Manamela needed to be placed on sick leave for an extended period. Manamela’s last scene for the season will air on April 5. From May 15 the character of ‘Meikie Maputla’ will be played by Florence Masebe,” read the statement.
In a recent Instagram post, Harriet Manamela shared the news of her hip replacement surgery at the start of 2024. She’s taking a break from shooting on Skeem Saam to focus on her recovery. Wishing her a speedy and successful recuperation! The actress shares that the surgery went swimmingly and she’s currently on a well-deserved break at home until she’s fully recovered.

I had a hip replacement surgery beginning of the year hence I was given a break from shooting. Thank you to everyone for wishing me well even though there was no clear explanation why I had to be off the screen & production had to find a sit in for me. Harriet Manamela extends her heartfelt sympathies to Sebeng’s family following the devastating car accident in Potchefstroom, North West province. In a statement, his family confirmed the untimely passing of the talented actor.
