Kgomotso Christopher returns to screens after a year of unemployment

After more than two decades of dazzling audiences with her incredible talent, one of South Africa’s most beloved actresses is making her much-anticipated return to the small screen. Yes, we’re talking about the fabulous star who has graced our screens for years, and now she’s stepping back into the shoes of Kea Moroka on SABC1’s hit show, Generations: The Legacy.

In a recent chat with Drum, she couldn’t hide her excitement about rejoining the cast. “I’m excited to be back and to see my colleagues,” she gushed. “I took a break from the character earlier this year, and I’m glad to be back. I rejoin the Moroka family. It’s really exciting to be back!” It’s clear that the warmth of the cast and the familiarity of the role have her buzzing with joy.

What sets this actress apart is her incredible versatility. Whether it’s comedy, drama, or film, she’s got the chops to tackle it all. “I’m very blessed to be able to be adaptable as an actress, and I think that’s what makes me different,” she shares. “I’m currently shooting something in Cape Town, and it’s lovely to see how versatile I can be.” It’s refreshing to see an actress who embraces the challenges of her craft and continually seeks new experiences.

But it’s not all glitz and glamour. Like many in the industry, she opened up about the struggles of finding consistent work. “To be honest, we don’t always get jobs no matter how big we are. I wasn’t working between 2022 and 2023, so it’s not like we always have work,” she revealed. This candid admission sheds light on the often unseen challenges that actors face, even those who have made a name for themselves.

Moreover, she passionately advocates for better regulations in the industry. “We are waiting for the president to sign so that we can earn residuals for our work because channels sell work and they make money from it,” she explained. This fight for fair compensation is one that many in the industry have been rallying for, and she hopes that figures like Gayton Mackenzie will help push these important issues forward.
