The court documents state that their marriage is beyond repair, with no possibility of reconciliation.

The wife’s identity has been kept confidential to protect her children.

King Misuzulu has proposed a monthly maintenance payment of R20,000 for one year after the divorce is finalised as part of the divorce settlement.

The papers also reveal that the King stated they had been living separately for over a year.

This divorce has shocked many, as it marks the first time in over two centuries of Zulu history that a monarch has initiated a divorce.

South Africans have expressed their views on the divorce saga. Some argue that R20,000 per month is insufficient for a year’s maintenance.

@meekcd wrote: “R20,000 for a year from his R79 million per annum, funded by taxpayers? After a year, she’ll qualify for the R350 grant the government is offering to the poor.”

@Phathus wrote: “What happens after a year? This King is dizzy.”

@RMarylize commented: “R20k is too small after living a royal life.”
