Makoma Mohale almost pulled out of ‘Queen Modjadji’
‘Scandal!’ actress Makoma Mohale who plays Tlhogi reveals why she almost dropped out of Mzansi Magic’s ‘Queen Modjadji’.
Former Skeem Saam actress Makoma Mohale opens up about securing the leading role of Queen Modjadji.
MAKOMA MOHALE: ROLE AS THE RAIN QUEEN
The popular Scandal! actress Makoma Mohale tells Sunday World why she almost pulled out of playing Queen Modjadji.
“I went on YouTube to make up a monologue, sent it and I was confirmed,” says Mohale.
She got the scripts, which were not translated, so she asked her dad to translate for her. He made it in a much simpler Khelobedu.
The actress says she later realised that production sent translated versions that were deeper in Khelobedu than she had anticipated.
“I remember on the day of the pilot shoot I wanted to pull out. I have no idea how I found myself at the location learning my lines.”
She reckons God and her ancestors took her there. As she understood the language better during audition and she was much more confident.
The e.tv Scandal! actress confirms she is part of the Lobedu tribe. Her father is Molobedu from Jokone.
She also reveals that she grew up more on her mother’s side (Bapedi). This means she had to learn the language.
TVSA confirms that Mohale will headline Mzansi Magic’s historical drama series as the Rain Queen Maselekwani aka Queen Modjadji.
Her character is a young queen-in-waiting who brings about a golden age of peace and prosperity to the land.
Mohale is also famously known for her roles in 1Magic’s canned telenovela, The River and SABC1’s soapie, Skeem Saam.
