Mandla Masanga backs Chiefs to sign Bongani Zungu
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Supersport united midfielder Mandla Masango believes Bongani Zungu has the capability to fit in the starting lineup of Nasreddine Nabi at Amakhosi.
Mandla Masango revealed in his latest interview that Bongani Zungu could turn things around at Kaizer Chiefs in the midfield position under Nasreddine Nabi.
The 32-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Moroccan giants, Wydad Casablanca, however, the deal did not materialized and the player is now back in South Africa.
Rulani Mokwena, who is currently the head coach of the Moroccan giants, Wydad Casablanca, revealed that he is knee on signing Bongani Zungu as a free-agent. Unfortunately, they failed to reach an agreement with the player.
Bongani Zungu was released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season. The club also parted ways with Rulani Mokwena, who was close to Zungu.
When Mandla Masango spoke to the media, he stated that he believes Bongani Zungu could turn things around at Kaizer Chiefs under Nasreddine Nabi as the Tunisian coach has the attacking mental.
Mandla Masango further revealed that Bongani Zungu is the man you need in that holding midfield position if you are a coach who has the attacking mentality.
Especially with the absence of the Venezuela midfielder Edson Castillo, Kaizer Chiefs are now left with only Njabulo Blom, Yusuf Maart and Sibongiseni Mthethwa in that holding midfield position.
The former Stellenbosch midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa is yet to make an appearance this season under Nasreddine Nabi, which made things clear that he is not in the plans of the newly appointed coach.
Njabulo Blom on the other hand has stepped up since the injury of Edson Castillo, who will be out of almost the whole season. However, Njabulo Blom is only on loan at Amakhosi.
Yusuf Maart on the other hand has struggled at Kaizer Chiefs this season, which has forced the coach to rest the player.
Despite being a free-agent, one of the main issues of signing Bongani Zungu for Kaizer Chiefs or any other coach is that the player is one of the highest paid players in the country. At Mamelodi Sundowns, it was reported that the player is earning R700 000 and was the highest paid player at Masandawana.
