Meyiwa family wants to see Senzo and Kelly Khumalo’s daughter.

The family of the late former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa have resigned themselves to the fact that they may never have the opportunity to meet his daughter, who he had with afro-pop star Kelly Khumalo. Kelly’s daughter with Senzo was just a few months old when tragedy struck. Her father was brutally murdered at her maternal grandmother’s home in Vosloorus back in October 2014.

The family that disagrees with Asinne has tried to contact her for years, but she never answers. Senzo’s family only met Thingo once when her father took her to her grandparents’ home in Umlazi, near Durban, with Kelly’s mother. A Meyiwa relative informed ZiMoja that Kelly was given space when she told the family she would not attend his funeral.

The source said:

"Family members were still hurt at the time. It's understandable that she could not bring Thingo to Senzo's funeral because the whole country blamed his death on her,"

Senzo’s brother Sifiso told eNCA last year that after Senzo’s death, their sister Nokuthula tried to call Kelly but she didn’t answer. Sifiso also alleged the family and their mother’s sister tried to phone the Khumalos but were ignored.

According to the source, the family had hoped that over the years, Kelly would let them see the child. “It has been ten years now, and Senzo’s mother Ntombi and his sister Zama, are desperate to have a relationship with the girl,”

The source said:

" All they want is to spend time with Thingo so that she knows her siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. It is unfair for the child to only hear about the Meyiwa family in the media and not spend time with them,"

Thingo needs to have a relationship with her babomkhulu (uncle Sifiso) so that she knows the rituals of the Meyiwas as she grows up. Senzo and Sifiso Meyiwa were very close. So Sifiso as the uncle, is like the father to Thingo,"

According to Zama Meyiwa, Senzo’s sister, their last meeting with Thingo was when she was just six months old. Since then, attempts to contact Kelly have been abandoned. It truly saddens them as a family to witness Thingo’s presence on social media.

“The whole family is not happy at the fact that we don’t have access to her, and she is a big part of our family and she looks like my brother, I just wish we could spend time with her even if it’s an hour,” she said.

In 2016, when questioned about the possibility of Senzo’s family meeting his child on Real Talk with Anele Mdoda, she playfully replied, “They might as well forget about it.” Kelly’s got herself a teenage son with none other than media personality and TV presenter, Jub Jub Maarohanye. Last April, she welcomed her third child into the world, with the father being none other than former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende.
