Mfundo Vilakazi is a South African professional football player who is currently playing for the Betway Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs Football Club.

He joined the Glamour boys senior team at the beginning of this year from the clubʼs academy after excelling in the past few years.

Early life

Mfundo Vilakazi was born and raised in Gauteng. He was born on the 19th of November 2005.

Growing up with a passion of being a professional footballer, he was given a nickname “Obrigado”.

He was scouted in the local tournaments by the Kaizer Chiefs scouts few years ago.

The 18-year-old was quickly given a chance to showcase his talent in the Dstv Diski Challenge by David Mathebula.

Football Career

The 18-year-old was handed his first ever professional contract at the beginning of this year as Cavin Johnson, who was the interim coach by that time, had faith in the talented and skillful midfielder.

Despite being only 18, Obrigado has received a lot of criticism on social media for his showboating skills as they are labeled as “unnecessary”.

He was given a chance by the newly appointed head coach Nasreddine Nabi during the Pre-season preparation.

The 18-year-old played against the Tanzania giants Yanga Africans and the player trended for showcasing his football skills.

He showboated while his side were losing to Yanga Africans and the club ended up losing by 4-0. He then trended on social media, however, he was quickly defended by some Kaizer Chiefs legends.

Mfundo Vilakazi will have his first full season as a senior player at Kaizer Chiefs this season. He will be hoping to be a regular start at Amakhosi under Nasreddine Nabi.

The club has signed the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino who play the similar position as Mfundo Vilakazi, which could become an issue, however, Obrigado can play also as an attacking midfielder.

Kaizer Chiefs and the player’s representatives are yet to confirm how much the player earns at Amakhosi, however, the reports have revealed that the player is earing around R40 000 per month.

The current net worth of Obrigado is believed to be around R400 000. However, it will continue to grow as time goes by.
